A recent article on our blog revealed that 1 in 4 British people are worried about base rate rises and the effect on their mortgage. The fact that most struck me as telling was:

'if base rates were to return to pre-credit-crunch levels, average monthly payments could rocket by up to £563 (based on someone with a £150000 interest-only mortgage on a 2.5 per cent SVR and a base rate increase of 4.5 per cent)'

Maybe now is a good time to consider a 2 or 3 year fixed rate mortgage?

what do you think?

Base rate increases means higher in cost as taxes will increase .

With the cuts made to public spending, inevitable public sector mass redundancies, increases in VAT and slowing housing market (again) a rise in interest rates would spell disaster for the economy and hopefully the Bank of Englsnd recognise this and will hold off any rises until the UK economy is back on its feet.

If you're looking for a mortgage whether you're a first time buyer or looking for a remortgage why not check out this mortgage rate calculator.
