Has anyone had experience of using a professional CV writer to help them write a job application or CV?

If so I'd love to hear about it and whether it helped. I've seen some terrible cover letters and CVs and some great ones, it's the first impression even before you get an interview and can be the difference between the waste bin and the 'invite to interview pile'.
