I'm just looking to buy my first house, I've put an offer in today which has been accepted. The Estate agent wants my solicitors details and my Dad has given me the number of his solicitor and when i called they said it would be £400 - is this normal?

I've seen it for £99 online but this seems too good to be true?

Most high street solicitors charge on a sliding scale depending on the price of the house you are buying or selling. These prices are set by the legal council so everyone should be inline.

Well it depends on the solicitor. Sometimes they take up to 1 or 2% of the sale to cover their fees. If you have seen a house you want to buy and it’s with reputable seller for e.g. Plaza Estates. They usually have their own solicitors in with the package although you don't have to use them. If you look for them on Google, you can find a fair number of solicitors who also deal with property.
