Full-time Associate - Building Services

at Capita Symonds in Lancashire


Covering the North-West and North Wales, our Building Structures team forms part of the Property team based from Blackburn. The Team carries out feasibility work, designs and supervises a wide range of building and structural engineering projects.

Due to a buoyant, wide and varied workload including new-build and refurbishment projects across all market sectors we have an exciting opportunity for an Associate specialising in Building Structures.

This will be a varied and involved role but will certainly include:-

Providing effective, efficient, responsive and accurate high quality structures design and consultancy services to successfully deliver projects to our wide and varied Client base.

Responsibility for the management of the financial performance of the team.

Being responsible for and supervise work undertaken by Senior Engineers, Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Technicians and temporary and seconded staff within the team.

Work with other Consultants and Capita Offices (this will involve travel to other Capita, Capita Group and Client offices throughout the UK) allowing you to build a strong network and giving exposure to potential new project opportunities

Support the Associate Director for Property in meeting business plan targets, resource forecasting and management, development of estimates / bids and business development and client relationship management


As an experienced and capable Associate within the Building Structures environment, it is expected that you will be able to demonstrate:

A Bachelors or Masters degree or equivalent in Engineering or a related subject accredited by the Engineering Council.

Hold Chartered Member status of the Institution of Structural Engineers  (CEng MIStructE) or the Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng MICE).

Substantial post qualification experience in the design, implementation and supervision of building structures and general civil engineering design and construction.

Proven ability to manage a team of engineers and technicians in the delivery of projects including working flexibly and proactively to manage project resources and meet demands.

The ability to deal appropriately and effectively with external organisations, statutory bodies and clients;

An extensive working knowledge of British and European  Standards and Codes of Practice for design in all main structural materials;

Experience of preparing concept designs for schemes;


Ideally you will also demonstrate:

A commitment to quality and a positive attitude to change management and ongoing interpretation of organisational aims and objectives.

Tact and diplomacy in all interpersonal relationships.
