Full-time Principal Ecologist

at Capita Symonds in Glamorgan

We are currently seeking a Principal Ecologist to join us on a permanent basis.The successful applicant will work at Principal level within the Ecology Team, alongside the Ecology Team Leader. You will be leading on projects to provide a range of ecology services to our client. You will have overall responsibility for quality and technical expertise, including developing the team and business opportunities.
Project management will include pricing, programming, resource planning and financial control, technical management of the ecological surveys, report writing and report quality checking.
Ecological impact assessment and mitigation design

Essential Requirements:

Qualified to degree level and previous relevant experience. Full MIEEM status or immediately eligible for such status.
Protected species handling and survey licences for European Protected Species.
Detailed knowledge of development licensing procedures and mitigation design and monitoring.
Ecological Impact Assessment experience including preparing the biodiversity section of Environmental Impact Assessments.
Excellent knowledge of relevant legislation and policy.
Experience of working in a multidisciplinary environment. Good people and technical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
As many sites are in remote locations, the ability to drive is essential.
Willingness to work unsociable hours

Desirable requirements:
Highly desirable
An ecological specialism – expertise in botany or bats would be especially relevant.
Higher degree such as Masters in ecology or a related subject.
Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).
Although the company operates a fleet of pool cars, the use of one’s own transport is required from time to time and car ownership is therefore desirable.
Experience of coordinating Environmental Impact Assessments and Habitats Regulations Assessments.
Coastal and/or marine ecology experience

The Individual:
A self-motivated individual, with good communication skills, able to inspire other team members. Excellent organisational skills, able to work both on their own and within a team environment, including multidisciplinary teams. The successful applicant will need to be familiar with the requirements of the ecology team and able to clearly communicate ecological and legal requirements in respect of projects and proposed works.
