Full-time Graduate / Trainee Quantity Surveyor

Capita Symonds (Northcroft) has a fantastic opportunity for a Graduate or Trainee Quantity Surveyor to gain experience and progress their career.

The role is to support a team of surveyors working in the education, public and development sectors.

The role is within the Management Division, working on mainly commercial projects in London.

On a daily basis, the surveyor will be responsible for carrying out any of the following aspects of the surveying function as and when necessary, to ensure the highest level of assistance is provided to the projects and team:

• Project administration

• Measurement exercises as directed.

• Assist with and carry out inputting data and data collection.

• Prepare all sundry papers for tender documents (e.g. preambles, bond, list of drawings, summary, contents page, form of tender, return label).

• Issue tenders including preparing draft of tender letter.

• Prepare Contract documents in draft for Project Surveyor and then for final issue.

• Draft financial reports for Project Surveyor.

• Keep financial reports up to date with each issue of A.I.s, CVI’s and other variations, including variation account measures.

• Check valuation received monthly/or 4 weekly, include site inspections.

• Prepare valuation sheets including reconciliation.

• General support to Senior Surveyor on all post contract QS duties including attending meetings as necessary


Graduate or Trainee in QS discipline with immediate availability.

An ideal candidate will be nearing the completion of a vocational degree, or recently degree qualified.

We would also consider finding a day release student completing a part-time degree.

Good oral and written communications are essential.


Experience of working in the construction industry for a consultant or contractor.


Predominantly based in London but flexible to travel to offices and sites as required.

We require a candidate who is enthusiastic and hard working, has an enquiring mind, has good attention to detail, is articulate and outgoing.

We are looking for a candidate who will provide effective surveying assistance to the team as directed to ensure a high level of technical, financial and commercial control.
