Full-time Environmental Co-ordinator

at Capita Symonds in Lancashire


The role is a demanding one which combines delivering a range of professional services including EIA as well as day-to-day project management with a requirement for ongoing self-promotion in order to win new work.    

Technical responsibilities will include:

• Analyse data effectively and undertake desk based studies and site visits as required;
• Manage and author  environmental reports including Construction, Environment and Management Plans, Screening and Scoping reports, Non Technical Summaries and Consultation reports to the highest standard and in accordance with project timescales and best practice;
• Management of pre-construction, construction and post-construction surveys;
• Undertaking and project managing specialist project work
• Developing environmental mitigation in the project development and planning process
• Co-ordinating environmental impact assessments
• Contributing specialist technical knowledge to other EIA projects as appropriate
• Advising, guiding, training and mentoring staff
• Producing environmental statements to various standard formats
• Contract preparation and management
• Project management and financial control
• Developing new markets in the environmental sector
• Keep up to date with relevant environmental legislation/policy/guidance;
• Effective communication with colleagues, partner organisations, statutory and non-statutory consultees, sub contractors and clients to successfully maintain team engagement and client confidence;
• Engage effectively with statutory bodies to ensure processes necessary to gain consents are met to meet timescales and project objectives;
• Project management and financial control of projects;
• Undertake technical reviews of third party (environmental) reports;
• Develop new markets in the environmental sector and supporting business development opportunities


Essential Criteria

• An appropriate BSc and MSc in an Environmental Management Discipline;
• Associate Membership of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA);
• Driving Licence


Desirable Criteria

• Proven record of working on projects for The Highways Agency, Transport Scotland or Network Rail;
• A specific technical specialism such as Air Quality, Noise & Vibration or Socio- Economic Assessment;
• Chartered Environmentalist.
