Full-time Graduate Quantity Surveyor

at Capita Symonds in Glamorgan

We are looking for a Graduate QS with some experience to join our multi discipined office based in Glamorgan, South Wales.

The successful candidate will join a thriving business unit and will assist in the delivery of cost management advice on projects primarily within the public sector, encompassing on major and minor Civil Engineering.  

Key Responsibilities:

• Estimating and cost planning
• Management of the SEW Framework Agreement
• Tendering and procurement
• Measurement of BQ’s etc
• Completion of contract documents
• Post contract works
• Negotiation to final accounts
• Interfacing with the client and other consultants
• Required to monitor the costs of projects and their progress in relation to the programme
• Ensure corporate procurement procedures are adhered to
• Observe Health & Safety provision in the working environment

You will be expected to have:
 Good technical grounding in all main areas of cost management
 Degree qualified in quantity surveying – working towards RICS status
 Experience in production of BQ’s for major schemes
 Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts, change control and CE’s
 Good understanding of procurement methods
 Knowledge and understanding of value engineering
 Knowledge and experience of Civil Engineering project management
 Experience in conducting monthly valuations and agreeing of final account measures
 Knowledge in risk allocation and risk analysis
 Experience in the production of project estimates
 Good communication skills and construction knowledge to give project reviews and client advice
 Experience in using industry standard processes and systems (IT (Microsoft), CAD, ICE- PAC and other)
The successful candidate will need to have good communication skills and have the ability to work on own initiative and within teams.

Ideally you will have:
 Ability to communicate with people in a co-operative and persuasive manner
 Excellent report writing and presentation skills
 Experience of the design process, preparation of specifications and contract documents, using the NEC forms of contract
 Ability to network and to successfully identify and communicate new business opportunities
 Experience of developing excellent Client relationships
 Comfortable in client-facing situations, able to influence and convince
 Experience of working within an ISO 9001/ISO14001/OHSAS18001 certified environment
 Hold an up-to-date CSCS industry card


The employee will need to have good communication skills and have the ability to work in a busy environment as a member of a team.  They will need to be willing to develop new skills beyond the core functions and have the ability to meet deadlines.

The employee must be mature, self-motivated and able to contribute within a team environment.

Upon joining the organisation the successful candidate will be assigned a mentor and delegated engineer to provide support and direction in integrating within the consultancy and progress initial professional development.
