Full-time Finance Manager

at Capita Symonds in Gloucestershire


An opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager to join the Insurance & Benefits Services Division of Capita.  The role is based in Cheltenham and reports to the Divisional Financial Controller within the Corporate Reporting team.

The Corporate Reporting team has varied responsibilities and provides regular and ad hoc divisional reporting to divisional management, Capita Group and also supports cost centre managers in central and executive divisional overheads teams (the “Overheads” unit).  Divisional reporting is multi-region and multi-currency.

The role critical to:
• To provide timely financial and management information to divisional management and Capita Group
• To liaise with the division’s Finance Directors to co-ordinate, support and manage requirements
• To ensure financial integrity in financial and management reporting
• To meet all financial reporting deadlines
• To provide support for divisional & regulatory reporting and the “Overheads” business unit
• To implement & ensure compliance with all Capita finance policies

Key responsibilities:
• supervise compilation of divisional monthly reporting
• supervise compilation of the Board Report
• liaise with divisional Finance Directors to ensure required reporting submitted as required, to time
• manage monthly and ad hoc P&L variance analysis including to Business Plan and prior month outturn
• manage sales and acquisitions reporting
• assist in managing the annual Business Planning process and report collation
• manage some Overheadcost centres: support non-Finance cost centre managers in the Overheads business unit to produce all required month end reporting (accruals, variance analysis, forecasting, recharges, business planning and ad hoc queries)
• supervise management of other Overheads cost centres


• advanced Excel Skills
• significant experience in an accounting environment
• good communication skills and able to tailor outputs to suit the target audience
• discretion in ensuring confidentiality of highly sensitive information
• methodical approach
• excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
• high level of attention to detail and accuracy


• SAP, Axiom, Desktop and Ebydos experience
• relevant accounting qualifications
• staff management experience
• experience of a service sector background, outsourcing or life & pensions exposure


• enthusiastic, proactive, “can-do” attitude
• tenacity and proven ability to deliver
• confident and able to quickly establish constructive working relationship with other finance teams
• self-starter, able to work on own initiative without high levels of supervision
