Full-time Senior Planning Officer

at Capita Symonds in Tyne and wear


Provide a full range of planning services to public and private sector clients from the preparation, implementation, monitoring and review of the Development Plan and other land use policies, and provide an efficient and effective development management service to achieve performance targets undertaking duties to provide a town planning service to comply with the requirements of the Town and Country Planning Acts, associated legislation and other non statutory duties;

Secure investment in the borough to bring about economic, social and environmental regeneration in accordance with the strategies of the Council, and undertaking other statutory and non statutory duties to comply with the requirements of the Town and Country Planning Acts, associated legislation.

Contribute to Capita’s Business Plan through provision of excellent services which generate repeat business from existing clients, or generate new business through enhanced reputation.


•3 years general planning experience with demonstrable involvement in policy issues prior to appointment.
•A professional knowledge of statutory requirements, government guidance and work experience in development plan and town planning matters.
•Ability to communicate verbally in a structured, concise & clear way.
•Initiative, ability to make decisions, work with limited supervision and meet deadlines.
•Ability to write concise, clear, accurate reports.
•General computer literacy and applications such as Microsoft Office Packages
•Being a team player.
•Ability to deliver results by maintaining a focus on objectives, prioritising objectives and scheduling work to make best use of time and resources, monitoring quality of work and progress against plans.
• Understanding and means to deliver a customer focused planning service.
• Ability to represent the Council at public inquiries, court hearings as expert witness.
• Ability to work from remote locations to service client needs and requirements
• Full UK Driving licence.


•A minimum of 2 years relevant work experience in planning prior to appointment. Post RTPI qualification experience able to demonstrate experience in policy formulation
•A flexible, adaptable, receptive to new ideas.
•A broad based knowledge of office and administration procedures in local government and the planning process.
•Ability to influence others by presenting oneself positively, creating a professional image.
•Act assertively, taking personal responsibility for making things happen, stating own position and views clearly in conflict situations.
•Manage in a calm manner in difficult or uncertain situations, handles emotions without becoming personally involved in them.
