Full-time Health and Safety Compliance Manager

at Capita Symonds in London

Reporting to the Consultancy Profit Centre Manager (PCM), the Health, Safety and Compliance Manager will be core to management of the health, safety and compliance consultancy teams. Core responsibilities will include being fully responsible for the profit and loss of the teams business and to provide both internal and external directions on matters of H&S advice.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities  


• To work with the PCM in agreeing the business plan for the Health, Safety & Compliance team each year
• To manage the key areas of the Health, Safety & Compliance business ensuring profitability is maintained
• To identify new business and sales opportunities to increase revenue
• To manage utilisation of the team and ensure effective resource is managed to maintain profitability
• To assist the PCM in the monthly forecast review process


• To lead the consultancy business in its H&S, fire training and compliance management delivery streams
• To continually develop, define and implement the local working procedures in terms of Health, Safety and compliance for our client delivery business
• To communicate the local working procedures and ensure uniform policy, procedures and standards across all aspects of the business
• To work with the Learning & Development Manager to ensure that all relevant personnel are trained in Health, Safety and compliance within the respective sphere of their authority
• To monitor trends in relation to accidents, incidents and near misses
• To ensure that all accidents are adequately investigated.
• To ensure that the business is informed of any changes in legislation in relation to Health, Safety and Compliance related matters
• To enter and attain industry recognised awards such as (RoSPA) and memberships (BSC)


• To retain a professional and suitably qualified Health and Safety team.
• To line undertake line management responsibility for the team direct reports including annual appraisals
• To set individual business targets for each of the key business streams

As an experienced business leader and H&S professional, it is expected that you will be able to demonstrate:
• Experience commensurate with multi portfolio building management exposure, preferably within a multi-site commercial organisation or consultancy service
• NEBOSH DIPLOMA in Occupational Safety and Health
• Chartered member of the institute of occupational safety and (CMIOSH)
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
• Have an in-depth knowledge of Building Services practices, procedures and standards; particularly principles of Electrical and Mechanical Design and Engineering Compliance

Ideally you will be able to demonstrate experience of managing technical professionals and some experience of P&L management.
